I prefer a raw love story where we learn and grow with the characters, nothing complex or added beyond the ups and downs of love and day to day life. I will say, I am not a huge fan of the Sci-Fi elements of this book. Novels such as ‘What If It’s Us’ and ‘Boyfriend Material’ might center around high school teens, but still feel mature and suitable for all ages. I was even 3+ hours in thinking “do I want to finish this?” While I do often seek out gay YA fiction, this one felt immature. I listened to 2 other books within this month, because it took me so long to commit to the story. I started this book on 3/25/23 and I finished it one month later on 4/25/23. I will definitely watch the series in hopes Disney can make some repairs to Zepka’s story. ~ SPOILER ENDS ⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️~ Aside from the microphones issues, Gibson made a great delivery of every character voice and their personalities. The character development of Savannah is heartwarming and the professor not thinking twice on accepting being part of the GSA are great examples of it. He just met the boy and explodes an ice cream because he was too excited and wanted to get to know him? Following that, we have Dylan chasing after him and accepting to walk a complete stranger, that just melted a cup with his fingers, home? There are, obviously, great moments in this book. The letdown starts with how Zepka rushes into Jordan’s attraction towards Dylan. At times it felt extremely rushed and at others way too slow, it lacks a good balance. ~SPOILER ALERT ⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️~ There were many unfinished ideas that unfortunately just really didn’t make sense. A queer adaptation made BY Disney sounds like something unreal that we have all been waiting for.
I found out that Disney bought the rights to make it a series adaptation for it and just made me want to listen it even more.
I started to listen to The Temperature of Me and You after seeing the writer talk about it on Tiktok. I’m not one to give bad reviews, honestly. High expectations for such a bad delivery
